چکیده

The School of Arts and Communication at Malmö University organizes research in cross-disciplinary designoriented studios. A newly established research studio is concerned with the design of technology-augmented creative environments. In this paper we present the conceptual framework underlying the research projects in the studio and give examples of research initiatives. The studio investigates design-oriented collaborative environments for professional inspirational learning with strong demands on discovery and creative spaces like laboratories, studios and workshops. This is integrated with inquires into artistic performance as creative practices. The first section of the paper positions our approach within the field of collaborative learning research and emphasizes the importance of place and body (synkinaesthetics) in collaborative learning. In the two following sections we focus on performing arts as creative practices and on inspirational learning in design education. In both cases we give examples of recently initiated projects and reflect on the design of computer support.

The Shared Imagination: Creative Collaboration in Augmented Virtuality

In creative collaboration, the primary focus of participants is creating “what if” scenarios that must be jointly imagined. Collaboration in strictly Physical Reality (PR) is constrained because of the limitations the real world places on shared imagination. As dynamic as Virtual Reality (VR) environments can be, subtle human-to-human interaction is severely limited in these totally synthetic e...

Virtual Realisation: Supporting Creative Outcomes in Medicine and Music

In this article, I describe findings on the impact of virtual realisation on professional skills and creativity, based on observational studies and interviews with surgeons and musicians. I also present a vision of computer-supported creativity in terms of a modular set of virtual and augmented-reality environments based around an explicit model of the creative process. I suggest that by combin...

Netlearning and Learning through Networks

Traditional non-computerized learning environments are typically founded on an understanding of learning as acquiring silence for an effective individual learning process. Recently, it has also been reported that the high expectations for the impact of computer-based technology on educational practice have not been realized. This paper sets out to challenge both the assumptions made about the r...
